Every day is a little bit different from the next, but each day here in Salamanca follows the same general path: I usually wake up at about 9, 8:45 if I am going to shower. and do normal morning activities, brush teeth/hair, etc. I get dressed, usually a casual dress or shorts and a nice top. After that, every day I have breakfast with my Señora. Milk with coffee, no not coffee with milk, and either some muffins or some breakfast crackers/cookies. After breakfast, I leave 101 Avenida Comuneros, and head to school.
My classes start at 10 in the morning and it is about a 25-30 minute walk to school from where I live. Two out of my three classes are in the same classroom. I am taking three classes, Art History, Spanish Culture, and Spanish 300, in that order every day. The first two of the day are taught by Spanish professors. The third is taught by a University of Michigan teacher. Classes end every day at 1:30, when I make my hike back home through lunch. Every day, on the way to and from school, I walk through Plaza Mayor, the central spot in Salamanca, and Calle Toro, a pedestrian street filled with several popular clothing shops.
After I get home, I have lunch with my Señora, sometimes other members of her family. She has a daughter Belén and a son Raúl, 35 and 31 years old. After lunch, it is siesta time! I usually do three things: 1. nap 2. read 3. homework. Some days I do all three! I usually just relax in my bedroom until about 4:30, 5, and that is where my days end up being a little bit different. In the afternoon I like to do a couple different things. One or two days out of the week I skype with my parents or my boyfriend Justin. Being so far apart is hard and I really miss them! I do not have WIFI at my home here in Salamanca so I usually go to the Palacio San Boal classrooms (just another school building, but closer to where I live). If I do not go there, I like to get out of the apartment and go for a walk. It does not matter where, I just like to walk around the city. If there were places that I frequent, they would probably be by the train station or Calle Toro (yet again!). I really enjoy going to places that I have not really been before. Nothing out of the way, I will just walk a little farther down a street than I normally do, or walk around a park I pass by every day. I think Salamanca is beautiful and I want to take in as much of it as I can!
After spending a couple hours out and about, I usually like to head home at about 9-ish. Dinner is anywhere from 9:30-10:30, so I like to be home on time because I am usually starving by then! After dinner, again with my Señora and various members of her family. Most days by dinner time her husband is home from work and he will have dinner with us. Dinner is ALWAYS followed by a yogurt-my Señora knows I love them! And then I head back to my bedroom. By this time I am really tired from the whole day, and after a little bit of reading (lately I have been reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone-but in Spanish), I am ready for bed around 11:30. I do not go out very much, I am way too tired by then to even make it to my room! But if I do head out after dinner, I go to the plaza to enjoy the delicious ice cream they have here!! I love it! I have tried a few different flavors, but I always go back to strawberry! YUM!
Great post, Addy! The pics of the city and food help see what living in Salamanca is like. Super cool!
